Sikkim delays opening of schools and colleges

The Sikkim government has decided to reopen its schools and colleges in the month of August. This decision was taken in a high-level meeting of the State Task Force on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. Earlier schools and colleges were to open from July 1.

“In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, there is a need to exercise extreme caution while resuming educational activities in Sikkim,” officials said.

Schools and colleges will be reopened in compliance with the directions of the UGC and the Central Government.

Officials said, “The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced that the pending board exams for class 10th and 12th would be conducted from July 1 to July 15. The exams were postponed due to the nationwide lockdown on March 25. These There will be exams.” To be conducted in all Senior Secondary Schools of Sikkim to maintain social distancing norms and avoid coming to a common centre.

Many students of Sikkim appearing for CBSE examinations are stranded in other states and have been directed to apply for change of examination center in the district in which they are staying.
