Highlighting that seasonal allergies can also cause eye irritation, causing watery, itching and light sensitivity, Dr. Sandeep Battan advises, “Avoiding allergens, staying hydrated, consuming fresh fruits and washing the eyes and face with clean water can help ease symptoms. However, if symptoms persist, it is best to consult an eye care provider to receive a complete evaluation and prescription for an appropriate tear substitute and anti-allergen medications. Dry eye is a broad term used to denote eye problems associated with impaired tear production, either reduced quantity or altered composition, in the eye. The condition is prevalent in people who use contact lenses, work outdoors, have had LASIK surgery, suffer from other allergies, or use certain eye drops or medications. Using appropriate tear substitutes and avoiding exposure to artificial heating and cooling may help reduce symptoms.”

He stresses, “It is important to note that regular eye health check-ups are important to maintain good eye health, even when things seem fine. This helps in early detection of any underlying eye problems and prevents the worsening of potential eye conditions.   • Avoid irritability: If you’re allergic, some substances can irritate your eyes and make them worse. Try to avoid allergens like dust, pollen and pet dander. If you must come into contact with these substances, wear protective glasses such as goggles.
  • Practice Good Hygiene: If you have an eye infection, it is important to practice good hygiene to prevent spreading it. Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your eyes. Also, avoid sharing towels or other personal items that can spread the infection.
