Refuting claims that the AIADMK has filed nomination for the election to the post of general secretary, the O Panneerselvan (OPS) faction on Saturday said a petition has been filed in the Madras High Court against the election.
The election for the post of General Secretary of AIADMK is to be held on March 26.
In a statement on Saturday, the OPS-faction said, “Against the AIADMK bye-laws, the election to the post of general secretary was announced which is illegal. We have filed a petition against it in the Madras High Court, which is to be heard on Sunday.” ” ,
The statement further said, “Meanwhile some people are spreading the news that AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam has also filed nomination for the post of general secretary. This is only to create confusion among the workers. This is completely false news.” Is.”
Earlier, the AIADMK had announced that the election of the party’s general secretary would be held on March 26.
A release signed by the party’s election officers, R Viswanathan and Pollachi Jayaraman, said, “(the) general secretary will be elected by the primary members of the party and candidates can file their nominations. March 19 is the last day for filing nominations.” The nomination papers will be scrutinized on March 20. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 3 PM on March 21. The election will be held on March 26 and the counting of votes will take place on March 27.”
“It is also noted that as per Bye-law 20(A) Section 2 of the AIADMK Party, the General Secretary of the Party shall be elected by the primary members of the Party. Also interested cadres may obtain applications on payment from the Party Headquarters at Royapettah Rs 25,000,” the statement read.
Earlier in March, the Madras High Court refused to pass an interim order on a plea by Manoj Pandian, a confidant of former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, seeking an interim stay on the resolutions passed at the AIADMK General Council meeting on July 11 last year. was done.
Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) was made the interim general secretary of the party at the meeting.
