Union Information Broadcasting and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said on Sunday that the government is serious about complaints of increasing obscenity and hate speech on over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
“Abusive language in the name of creativity will not be tolerated. The government is serious about the complaints of increasing abusive and obscene content on OTT platforms. If there is a need to make any changes in the rules in this regard, the ministry is ready to consider the same,” he said while talking to reporters in Nagpur.
Mr. Thakur said that OTT platforms have been given freedom of creativity, not obscenity. “And when someone goes beyond limits, then in the name of creativity, abusing, misbehavior cannot be accepted at all. Whatever necessary action needs to be taken on this, the government will not back down from it.
He further said, the process till now was that the manufacturer had to resolve the complaints received at the first level and 90% to 92% of the complaints were resolved by making necessary changes by them. “The next level of grievance redressal is at the level of their association, where most of the grievances are resolved. The final level comes at the level of the Government, where action is taken as per the rules at the level of departmental committee. was taking seriously.
He said that if there is a need for change, we are ready to seriously consider it.
