NIA arrests one more person in Bihar as part of crackdown on PFI

The NIA on Sunday said it has arrested one more person in Bihar as part of its crackdown on Phulwarisharif module of PFI.

The NIA (National Investigation Agency) in a statement said that the accused Mohd Irshad Alam – a resident of East Champaran district, was nabbed from Phulwarisharif in Patna on Saturday with the assistance of Bihar Police.

“The arrest was made in connection with a case registered in July 2022, when four accused persons were arrested from Phulwarisharif area where they gathered for training and carrying out acts of terror and violence. In February this year Three more persons were arrested.” Said this.

The NIA claimed that PFI cadres in Phulwarisharif and Motihari had “vowed to continue PFI activities” in a clandestine manner and had recently used firearms and ammunition to eliminate “a youth of a particular community” in East Champaran. Also collected ammo.

“Mohd. Irshad Alam was in close contact with Yakub Khan, a physical education instructor of PFI, who has been accused of putting videos on social media with the aim of spreading communal tension. Yakub along with Mohd. Irshad Alam and other associates planned carried out a targeted killing and conducted a recce and procured weapons for the purpose,” the NIA said.

With this, the number of arrested accused has gone up to 13, the NIA said, adding that the agency had filed a charge sheet against four people in January this year.
