Team India suffered a crushing defeat in the second ODI of the series against Australia on Sunday, as the team was bowled out for 117 runs before achieving the target in just 11 overs. This was India’s biggest defeat in terms of balls remaining; Mitchell Marsh (66*) and Travis Head (50*) made an unbeaten stand in the opening order as Australia won by 10 wickets. India made a disastrous start to the game after being invited to bat first, as Shubman Gill was dismissed for a duck; His fellow opening partner Rohit Sharma, who returned to the Indian XI after missing the first ODI, also failed to make a mark as he was dismissed for 13 runs.

Wickets continued to fall for the Indian team and Suryakumar Yadav, who faced a first-ball duck in the first ODI, again suffered deja vu against Mitchell Starc. The left-arm pacer trapped Suryakumar in front of the stumps, sending him straight back to the pavilion.

The 32-year-old batsman might be No. 1 in the shortest format of the game, but Suryakumar’s form in ODIs hasn’t been impressive of late. His last 50+ score in the format came against Ahmedabad in February 2022; Suryakumar’s highest score in 16 matches since then was 34* against New Zealand in November last year.
However, former India star Ajay Jadeja has backed Suryakumar, insisting that they will be in for a shock if India don’t repose faith in the explosive batsman for the final ODI of the series, to be played in Chennai on Wednesday.
“If the player on the bench is forcing the doors open then it would be understandable. Here, everyone is just sitting at the door,” Jadeja said cricbuzz Asked whether anyone from the current ODI squad can replace Suryakumar in the next ODI.
“Suryakumar himself has opened the door for himself. I doubt the Indian team will think about it (replacing Suryakumar). If they are even thinking like that, I would be shocked,” Jadeja further said.
