IIT-KGP has asked its students and researchers to vacate the hostel premises by June 20 and go back to their homes. Registrar BN Singh told the Press Trust of India on Sunday that the institute wanted the students to be back on campus when the new semester starts in September. “Of the total 12,500 hostel boarders, 5,400 were there when the lockdown began in late March. Another 3,000 were sent home last month and around 2,400 are currently living on campus,” Singh said.

“Instead of staying on campus due to no classes, they can spend quality time with family and resume classes from September,” Singh explained. “As the academic session 2019-20 has been closed and all academic activities will be completed within 15th June and normal academic activities can start from September itself, we request the students (UG, PG, Research Scholars) and project staff Those staying are requested that as per the notice issued by the Registrar, the Institute will discontinue the mess facility in all the Hostels/Halls from 20th June.

For the researcher, Mr. Singh said that they can do their research work from home and on mail as the faculty is responsive to their needs.
