Rajkot/Surat: Cloudy sky, strong wind, hailstorm and heavy rain have become the normal weather conditions across the country. Saurashtra, Raw And South Gujarat region for almost a week now. Saturday was no exception to this unseasonal event.
Rain accompanied by heavy wind and hailstorm lashed parts of Kutch, Saurashtra and Dang districts. As per reports, BhujSeveral areas of Kutch including Rapar, Mandvi and Abdasa received heavy rains. Villages in Rapar taluka, including Gagodar, Manaba, Mewasa, Kanmer and Sai, were also lashed by strong winds and thunderstorms, leading to water-logging in several villages. Even in villages like Manaba and Mewasa, the news of hailstorm shocked the people.
The unseasonal rains also affected districts like Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Amreli, Bhavnagar witnessed strong wind and thunderstorm since Friday night. The common farmers of the region are worried as unseasonal rains can cause various diseases in the crop and spoil the fruits. Raw fruits have also fallen from trees due to strong wind in some parts.
Some parts of Dang district also got drenched on Saturday. The tribal district has been receiving moderate rains for the last two days and due to this rains may affect tourism activities over the weekend.
Some parts of Surat district also received rain on Saturday. Light rain was recorded at Umarpada and Mandvi in Surat district. Rainfall in the last two days has affected agricultural activity and officials have started assessing the damage to crops.
The IMD forecast till March 23 states that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over North Gujarat including Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Ahmedabad. Rain may also occur in Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Valsad and Saurashtra-districts.
