During the drive, residents were apprised on how to check an ISI-stamped product using the license details to check its authenticity. “Always buy ISI, CML marked products. It is a seven digit license number with ISI mark. It helps in identifying the entity that has manufactured the product at a specific location. It can be verified online on the BIS site,” said Yachna Sharma, a student volunteer at GBU.
To check the authenticity of gold jewellery, residents were told how to find the hallmarked six-digit alphanumeric HUID code. This can be verified under ‘Verify HUID Number’ on the BIS app. “Check the hallmark on gold jewellery. All pure, authentic gold jewelery should bear the BIS standard mark, which is a six-digit alphanumeric HUID code, for example, 22K916, which will be unique to each jewelery article and ensure the purity of the gold,” said Sharma.
Similarly to check the authenticity of electronic and IT products, the alphanumeric code – for example the IS Rxxxxx mark – would ensure the safety of the product, the volunteer said.
