Chennai: The Airport Advisory Committee headed by MP TR Balu has urged Airports Authority of India (AAI) to re-survey the obstructions like buildings affecting landing and take-off on the second runway Chennai Airport,
The suggestion came after a meeting of committee members held at the airport on Saturday said that barriers can be removed without affecting buildings with violations up to 0.5 metres.
The AAI had recently issued notices to several residents, asking them to demolish obstructions, including water tanks, roofs and upper floors of buildings, that were infringing on the approach road for aircraft arriving at the Manapakkam-end. Were. The airport has not been able to make optimum use of the runway.
Balu also asked the district administration to take steps to remove the bottlenecks so that even big planes can land.
The committee urged AAI to convene a meeting of defense authorities and TN government to hand over defense land for development of airfield and to hand over land identified for hangar and simple approach lighting of runway 12/30 to the special DRO instructed.
Baalu ​​suggested that CISF personnel who speak the local language should be posted in areas where passenger interaction takes place to make it easier. He also asked the immigration department to submit a letter on the shortage of staff at the counters.
Airport Director Sharad Kumar spoke about the expansion work in the terminals and airspace to increase the passenger handling capacity to 35 million per annum.
